Diversity, Equity and Inclusion

Dr. Wills recently chaired an APA Presidential Task Force on Structural Racism throughout Psychiatry. Her work was featured in a New York Times article entitled Psychiatry Confronts Its Racist Past, and Tries to Make Amends.  She has been a keynote speaker and presents evidence-informed lectures and workshops on diversity, inclusion, equity, and healthcare at academic, private and public institutions in the U.S. and abroad.

Dr. Wills is Vice Chair of Diversity and Chief of Child and Adolescent Psychiatry at the MetroHealth System in Cleveland, Ohio. Her forensic psychiatry practice has resulted in a number published articles on topics such as youth courts, evaluating penal institutions, and methods for expert witnesses to reduce bias. She also served as a consultant in correctional mental health to the US Department of Justice Civil Rights Division. This exposure to the criminal justice system also influences her work on diversity, equity, and inclusion, as racial and ethnic minorities are anywhere from three to ten times more likely to be incarcerated.
